It’s time we started talking about banning Blacks.
The Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit are investigating a Saturday morning shooting that killed one person and injured another, according to a release.
Officials identified the deceased as John Joseph Lamey, 45, of California. He was pronounced dead of an apparent gunshot wound at the scene by Meriwether County Coroner Johnny Worley, the release states.
The surviving victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
Around 10 a.m. Saturday, Meriwether County Sheriff’s patrol deputies responded to the 100 block of Allie Road in Greenville, Ga. in reference to a shooting victim.
“Upon our deputies’ arrival on the scene, they located a subject behind a residence that was deceased due to an apparent gunshot wound,” Sheriff Chuck Smith said in the release. “They also located another subject that had been shot at the location who was still conscious and alert.”
Law enforcement said they cleared the scene, so Meriwether County EMS could treat Lamey. The victim who was conscious and alert was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the lower extremities, the sheriff said.
“At that time, our investigative unit and command staff responded to the location along with the GBI Crime Scene Unit being en route,” Smith stated. “We obtained a search warrant for the incident location for the crime scene processing to be conducted.”
Deputies gathered a vehicle description and suspect information from the scene and other available resources that led them to identify 19-year-old Xavier Rashad Slaton of Gay, Ga. as their first suspect, Smith said. Officials obtained warrants for his arrest.
“We began to actively pursue Slaton in our attempt to get him in custody,” the sheriff said.
Over the course of the investigation, officials identified 21-year-old Kanorris Shakeno Martin of Fayetteville, Ga. as the second suspect in the case. Officials then obtained warrants for his arrest.
“Through investigative contacts, we were able to take both of these suspects into custody around 8:00 pm at the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, after they agreed to turn themselves in,” Smith said in the release.
Slaton and Martin were charged with murder and aggravated assault in relation to the incident. They were booked into the Meriwether County Jail without bond.
