This is shocking because he looked like such a good boy, what with the glasses and the Black skin feature.

Sun-Sentinel:

A Broward jury on Friday convicted a Miami Gardens man who ran down two bicyclists while fleeing police in Cooper City three years ago.

Obrian Oakley, 30, was charged with felony murder in the deaths of Christopher McConnell, 61, of Cooper City, and Dean Amelkin, 60, of Coral Springs, who were part of a group taking a weekly bicycle ride at Sheridan Street and Palm Avenue on Aug. 5, 2012.

Prosecutors said Oakley and his accomplice, Sadik Baxter, were busy that morning breaking into cars in Cooper City’s nearby Rock Creek neighborhood, but they were spotted and someone called the police.

Baxter was caught at the scene, said Assistant State Attorney Al Ribas, but Oakley tried to get away, speeding off in a silver Infiniti and reaching speeds of up to 110 mph. At the intersection, Oakley collided with a Ford driven by a couple on their way home to Century Village from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

After the collision, Ribas said, Oakley’s Infiniti spun out of control and struck the bicyclists, who died at the scene.

Defense lawyer Brian Reidy tried to persuade the jury that Oakley had nothing to do with the burglaries and that police should never have pursued him.

“He dindu nuffin, ur honer.”
