Authorities in Rock Hill say two teenaged boys turned themselves in to police in connection with a fatal Friday shooting.
Maurice Lamont Burris, 16, is charged with murder, armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a firearm under the age of 18. Burris’ bond was denied.
Burris is accused in the first homicide in Rock Hill in 2014 for the death of 25-year-old Michael Giddens.
A second person turned themselves in, officials say, 17-year-old Dontavion White. White faces the same charges as Burris. Rock Hill Police say due to the “seriousness of the charges”, White’s bond will also be denied.
Rock Hill Police are now saying investigators are working to identify a possible third suspect in the homicide.
The incident happened Friday afternoon inside of a home in the 1100 block of Cedar Grove Lane.
Emergency crews arrived to find Giddens unresponsive. He was taken to Piedmont Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
This is the city’s first homicide of 2014. The first of 2013 happened in September.
Witnesses told police three men fled from the scene in a blue Mercury SUV. Police found the vehicle on Sirrine Street, in addition to a white Kia in the Calvary Baptist Church parking lot that may be involved.
Rock Hill Police say a handgun, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the Mercury SUV, and a shotgun, believed to belong to the victim, was also recovered by officers.
