We’re going to be talking a lot about caravans in the months to come.
AP:
Mexico is bracing for the possible arrival of the “mother of all caravans,” even as doubts arise over whether the group of Central American migrants will be all that big.
Interior Secretary Olga Sanchez Cordero has said a caravan of migrants from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala could be forming.
“We have information that a new caravan is forming in Honduras, that they’re calling ‘the mother of all caravans,’ and they are thinking it could have more than 20,000 people,” Sanchez Cordero said Wednesday.
There is in fact already a caravan headed north. It is some 2,500 people strong, mostly Cubans and some other South American shitholers. But seeing as thousands of people cross the border daily nowadays, I’m not even sure what the whole concern over the caravan is even about.
A “caravan” enters the US every couple days.
I suppose the whole idea of a caravan really just boils down to it being comprised of people unwilling to pay for human traffickers to smuggle them into the US. Instead, a “relief” agency heads down to a Central American country and tells anyone who is willing to just start walking and that the organization will handle the rest, that there’s strength in numbers.
One person brazenly trying to enter the US on foot outside of well-established and Koch brother-approved human smuggling channels might get caught and kicked back out into Juarez or Tijuana. But 7000 like the last caravan or 20,000 like this next one, well, that’s suddenly a moral and humanitarian issue.
Activist Irineo Mujica, who has accompanied several caravans in Mexico, said reports about “the mother of all caravans” were false, claiming “this is information that (U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen) Nielsen is using to create fear.”
His group, Pueblo Sin Fronteras, said in a statement there was no evidence the new caravan would be that large, noting “there has never been a caravan of the size that Sanchez Cordero mentioned.” Indeed, past caravans hit very serious logistical hurdles at 7,000-strong.
He and others suspect the administration of President Donald Trump may be trying to fan fears of a big caravan to turn the U.S. national agenda back to the immigration issue.
This Mujica guy is quite the character.
This man has dedicated the last decade of his life to conducting migrant caravans into the US. He then has the gall to accuse the Trump administration of making shit up.
But who is he? He’s a Mexican-American who is inexplicably very concerned about poor people in neighboring countries that he ferries through Mexico and into the United States out of a sense of altruism.
AZ Central (11/9/2018):
As thousands of Central American migrants traveling together in a caravan inch closer to the U.S., Irineo Mujica is stuck in this small city wedged between the Pacific Ocean and the Guatemalan border.
Perhaps no single person is more responsible for the huge caravans of migrants headed for the United States than Mujica, a longtime activist who was born in Mexico, grew up in Phoenix, and holds dual U.S-Mexican citizenship.
Do I detect a hint of gay-pedo face?
Mujica began coordinating small migrant caravans a decade ago. He wanted to provide Central Americans a safer way to make the trek through Mexico, where migrants often fall prey to criminal organizations — and sometimes Mexican immigration officials and police who demand bribes…
Told ya. Caravans are simply the poor man’s preferred method of migration.
Meanwhile, Trump has said that he’s considering shutting down the border.
The DEMOCRATS have given us the weakest immigration laws anywhere in the World. Mexico has the strongest, & they make more than $100 Billion a year on the U.S. Therefore, CONGRESS MUST CHANGE OUR WEAK IMMIGRATION LAWS NOW, & Mexico must stop illegals from entering the U.S….

….through their country and our Southern Border. Mexico has for many years made a fortune off of the U.S., far greater than Border Costs. If Mexico doesn’t immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States throug our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING…..

….the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week. This would be so easy for Mexico to do, but they just take our money and “talk.” Besides, we lose so much money with them, especially when you add in drug trafficking etc.), that the Border closing would be a good thing!

But I also recall him signing a National Emergency into effect and literally nothing happening after that.
Even if the caravan doesn’t hit the expected 20k number, it doesn’t take away from the fact that the size of these enemy probes is clearly increasing.
First, there was a few hundred. Then it became a few thousand right around last year. Now we’ve just started 2019 and we’re already talking about a couple of tens of thousands.
Within a year, we’re going to be talking about just one long uninterrupted stream of people marching across our borders and into our neighborhoods and it’ll all be over.
