I don’t understand why Latin American politics are suddenly such an important thing.
Can anyone tell me why micro-managing these governments has become a key foreign policy objective of the Trump presidency?
I understand that there has been a longstanding neocon plan to take out Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela, sure. I just don’t see what Trump gets out of it.
How does he think that this will help him?
President Donald Trump threatened to level a full embargo on Cuba if they continued to assist Venezuela Dictator Nicolás Maduro on Tuesday.
“If Cuban Troops and Militia do not immediately CEASE military and other operations for the purpose of causing death and destruction to the Constitution of Venezuela, a full and complete embargo, together with highest-level sanctions, will be placed on the island of Cuba,” Donald Trump wrote on Twitter.
….embargo, together with highest-level sanctions, will be placed on the island of Cuba. Hopefully, all Cuban soldiers will promptly and peacefully return to their island!

Opposition leader and recognized president Juan Guaido of Venezuela urged for an uprising against Maduro as the United States voiced support for their effort. Armed troops clashed with Venezuelan citizens rising against Maduro.
“Hopefully, all Cuban soldiers will promptly and peacefully return to their island!” Trump wrote.
Cuba denied having soldiers in Venezuela, as Maduro’s future continues to be uncertain.
This can only be seen in the context of Trump’s brilliant new strategy to fight Socialism and make it a central plank in his platform for 2020.
It’s probably a nostalgia-based strategy.
Many older Americans probably long for the days when things were simpler and the fight against Socialism gave their lives moral clarity.
So Trump is reusing the old tropes and the old Boomer rhetoric of the 70s and 80s. It’s probably not even a well-thought-out WONK-vetted thing, either. The old man no doubt simply feels nostalgia for the Reagan days and is actively modeling himself on the ol’ Gipper model.
That means wars in South America, fighting Socialism and the inevitable amnesty of the Venezuelan and Central American refugees that will head north.
I’ve always wanted to live through the 80s… but I didn’t think it would look like this.
Trump did indeed promise that he would bring back the 80s, but like all of Trump’s promises, this one came out weird and distorted. Like something a malicious genie would grant to toy with a naive mortal who stumbled upon his lamp and gave it a rub.
So you like Vaporwave and soft pink neon hues? How about some Neocon wars in South America and amnesty instead?
It’s sad.
It feels like we’re in a nightmare/kaleidoscope realm where every single nice thing gets distorted and Jewified no matter what Boomer we vote for.
With the new embargo on Cuba, we’ve really come full circle back to the 80s. At this point, I’m just waiting for the inevitable Scarface remake.
Except this time, Scarface is fighting the system of White oppression and is recast as an SJW hero or something.
It will suck.
But as long as he wears the same red shirt though, Millennials will think that it’s a clever movie laced with hidden meaning.
