According to the prosecutor’s office in Washington County the charges were dropped against Rico Cohn.
Investigators said a key witness died, and there was not enough evidence to try Cohn.
Cohn was accused of strangling a Fayetteville woman in 2006.
Nina Ingram was found dead at her apartment in Fayetteville. Investigators said Ingram didn’t answer her phone that morning, so her brother went to check on her, and when she didn’t answer the door, he crawled in through a window and found her body.
Over six years, no leads in the case had developed. A detective was specifically assigned to review the case and he re-examined evidence, re-interviewed witnesses and searched for new leads, said Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor.
Police arrested Rico Cohn, of Springdale, on a capital murder charge after the case was reopened in April 2012.
Cohn pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to undergo a mental evaluation at the state hospital in Little Rock in September.
Following the exam in December 2013, he was found fit to stand trial.
