Afghanistan continues to be a mess. More Americans have been injured in another insider attack committed by an Afghan soldier.

An Afghan soldier opened fire on American soldiers on Saturday, injuring at least seven, the U.S. military said. It was the second such insider attack by an Afghan soldier in the past week.
Abdul Qahar Araam, spokesman for the 209th Army corps, confirmed that an insider attack took place at a camp in Mazar-e Sharif. Araam said the soldiers returned fire and killed the attacker.
Gen. Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the Afghan Defense Ministry, also confirmed the attack.
So much for winning hearts and minds. The Afghan people view American forces as an occupying power. This is not something that can be overcome with more troops or an increase in military assets. When you have soldiers on the inside of the Afghan army attacking American forces with this regularity, that is a bad sign.
The Pentagon is reportedly sending another 4,000 troops to Afghanistan to try and help better the situation. They could send 400,000 troops and it would make no long term difference. The people are not going to support a puppet government propped up by a foreign power.
Everything about this occupation has been a disaster. Even still, it is a small price to pay for spreading freedom and democracy. Oh and let’s not forget about the CIA’s drug trafficking business. That would take a really big hit if American troops weren’t guarding those poppy crops!
