The slippery slope is real.
Under pressure from left-wing journalists and activists, Amazon is purging right-wing authors from its store, including a book co-authored by English Islam critic and independent commentator Tommy Robinson.
The web retail giant has become the dominant market player in book sales, accounting for nearly 50 percent of physical and 83 percent of e-book sales in the U.S. As such, Amazon has the power to effectively cut an author off from the vast majority of the books market.
Amazon began its new round of purges by targeting the white nationalist fringe. In February, the tech giant banned a number of books from white identitarian Jared Taylor, and a book called The White Nationalist Manifesto by Greg Johnson.
This followed bans on Holocaust revisionist books in 2017, and a purge of all books by controversial pickup blogger and author Daryush “Roosh” Valizadeh in 2018.
As with financial blacklisting, a censorship spree that starts by targeting extreme ideas quickly moves towards the censorship of more mainstream ones. In early March, the online retailer banned Muhammed’s Koran: Why Muslims Kill for Islam, a Chronological Koran and critique of the Islamic religion co-authored by British populist Tommy Robinson.
The book is a chronological reordering of the Islamic Koran, followed by commentary by Robinson and his co-author, Peter McLoughlin. Amazon did not return Breitbart News’ request for an explanation of why the book was banned.
Unless something changes, they’ll continue censoring “moderate” authors and people with the wrong kind of opinions until there’s nothing left in their book store but amateur young-adult novels and erotic literature written by obtuse overweight women.
They’re okay with that.
That’s the kind of thing left-wing soys and whores consume.
The First Amendment was great 200 years ago but time’s changed and the technology leviathan has created new artificial worlds and spaces for people to inhabit. Our governments are failing to adapt to the new environments and the leviathan is eating our rights.
Corporations are ruling the world. They can do whatever they want without being subjected to the same standards the government is because they’re “private companies” or whatever boomers say.
This is no different than a book burning. Just like the attempt to ban the Daily Stormer from the entire internet was no different than a book burning. They are purposefully erasing information.
They used to teach kids that this sort of thing was really bad. As recently as a decade ago, kids were still reading the anti-censorship scifi morality tale Fahrenheit 451 in school.
Amazon can continue to shut down every other book store out there and exercise an effective ban on any author they want, and they won’t be questioned because of it. No one will scrutinize their reasons because “they’re private companies and they can do whatever they want.”
The price of freedom is multinational corporate monopolies running your life and making all your decisions for you.
This isn’t 1791 anymore. There are very important meeting places and markets that are not physical, and right now they’re owned by corporations. Facebook is one example of such meeting places, and Amazon is one example of such marketplaces.
The fact that most people use social media and online stores is an argument against social media and online stores having the power to ban people at will. Excluding people from the places where most people go to do whatever is isolating them and ostracizing them, which sounds a lot like the so-called discrimination that our governments were so publicly against in the past.
Our idle governments are allowing these corporations to grow in power and if nothing is done to stop this, corporations will eventually surpass the government and take over everything we have.
Or are we past that point already?
Laws have to evolve as technology evolves. The government has to adapt to the reality of our current environment.
The world is not frozen in time. It is constantly changing, and we have to change with it and adapt so we can overcome everything it throws at us.
We have to regulate corporations. If we don’t, we’ll have what we’re seeing now: they’re regulating us.
And it isn’t like there is no precedent for this.
The Communications Act of 1934 declared that phone companies had a duty to provide service to all people. Even though they were private companies, the government was forcing them to do something.
This entire “Shadowrun” anarcho-capitalist system of “corporations can do whatever they want” was just invented a few years ago as a backdoor around the First Amendment. Obviously, anarcho-capitalist principles of “a company can do whatever it wants and violate the Constitution” doesn’t apply to Christian cake bakers, which the government forces to bake anal cakes, and will run out of business if they refuse.
It is the most obvious thing in the world that these companies need to be regulate and forced to uphold the First Amendment, and it would be so easy to do.
But Donald Trump isn’t going to do it.
He’s said he isn’t going to do it – even though they’re censoring him for the purpose of changing the outcome of the 2020 election.
