Apparently, US special forces are in yet another middle-eastern country where there’s a war going on. At this point, we should assume that unless otherwise specified, US special forces are in X country helping the guys that we’re rooting against.
RT:
A team of US Army Green Berets have been covertly aiding Saudi Arabian forces in their fight against Yemeni Houthi rebels, according to New York Times sources.
A team of around 12 Green Berets arrived at the Saudi border with Yemen last December, despite Washington officially remaining uninvolved in the conflict. The commandos are reportedly helping Saudi forces to “locate and destroy” ballistic missiles and launch sites, which are used by the Houthis to strike targets within Saudi Arabia.
Sources also told the newspaper that the US troops are training their Saudi counterparts to secure the border with Yemen. There is no indication yet that their mission has taken them across the border and into Yemen itself.
Officially, American involvement in the conflict is limited to logistics and intelligence sharing. According to official figures, there were just over 500 US military personnel stationed in Saudi Arabia as of December last year.
How many countries does that make?
I get that the house of Saud is an Israeli and American ally…but helping them starve out a native rebellion against their corrupt proxy government is a bit much.
I can’t help but sympathize with the Houthis – especially when you learn just how evil the Saudis are in comparison.
It’s a Fremen vs Harkonnen scenario and the Houthis are the plucky Fremen in this scenario.
Minus the blue-eyes and white skin lol
But because the US is in bed with the Saudis, that means looking the other way when the Saudis crush the Bahrainis or the Houthis.
From a purely leftist, liberal, anti-imperialist point of view, the Saudis are in the wrong.
From a realpolitik point of view…I fail to see what the US gets out of this except maybe a quid pro quo thing with the Saudis. And because the Houthis are being supported by Iranians and the neocons who run Washington want a war with Iran so that means crushing any movement supported by the Iranians.
We should probably go back to what the Founders wanted.
I don’t want to have to know who and what the Houthis are. I don’t want to have to try to figure out who the Alawites are either for that matter. Or what Middle Eastern tribe hates another.
I want to forget about all that and focus on America instead.
