The ancestors of the people who built Stonehenge travelled west across the Mediterranean before reaching Britain, a study has shown.
Researchers compared DNA extracted from Neolithic human remains found across Britain with that of people alive at the same time in Europe.
The Neolithic inhabitants appear to have travelled from Anatolia (modern Turkey) to Iberia before winding their way north.
They reached Britain in about 4,000BC.
Details have been published in the journal Nature Ecology & Evolution.
The migration to Britain was just one part of a general, massive expansion of people out of Anatolia in 6,000BC that introduced farming to Europe.
Before that, Europe was populated by small, travelling groups which hunted animals and gathered wild plants and shellfish.
One group of early farmers followed the river Danube up into Central Europe, but another group travelled west across the Mediterranean.
DNA reveals that Neolithic Britons were largely descended from groups who took the Mediterranean route, either hugging the coast or hopping from island-to-island on boats.
I want to know how they got DNA out of those stones.
Am I just supposed to close my eyes and believe because SCIENCE! says so?
This story continues in the same vein as the Cheddar Man psy-op with SCIENCE! just randomly deciding to make the first Britons black.
Now, they’re saying that the first Britons were black AND the Britons who came later were also black and brought stones and shit with them. This, despite there being no proof that Cheddar man was black at all.

Last month, researchers claimed that they had been able to accurately reconstruct the face of the ‘first Brit’ based on his DNA – and sensationally revealed he had black skin and blue eyes.
But now, one of the main scientists who helped create the reconstruction of his 10,000-year-old face says he may not have been black at all.
Geneticist Susan Walsh at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, says we simply don’t know his skin colour.
While her computer model shows being black is his ‘probable profile’, DNA testing is not advanced enough to say for certain.
So they got this DNA from remains that they found in the UK.
This doesn’t prove anything about when those stones were hewed out or put up, but OK.
Where are they getting the brown skin from though?
Are they unaware that Turkey used to have normal people living in it, unlike now?
These studies seem to be pushing a political agenda and not telling us anything interesting, if you ask me.
