The investigation into the attempted killing of state District Judge Julie Kocurek took a significant turn Tuesday when a man authorities are holding as a person of interest was charged with murder in an unrelated shooting death in Houston.

Austin police identified the man as 28-year-old Chimene Hamilton Onyeri, a Houston resident with a pending criminal matter in Kocurek’s court.
