When Omaha Police Officer Kerrie Orozco was shot and killed, Erica Coppage-Williams was arrested near the scene. Coppage-Williams appeared in court Tuesday morning in Omaha.
Coppage-Williams and Marcus Wheeler had a child together. Wheeler is the man who shot and killed Officer Orozco.
Investigators have charged Coppage-Williams with being an accessory to a felony. She is also charged with two misdemeanors: “obstruction” and “disorderly conduct”.
In court Tuesday morning she waived her right to a preliminary hearing which means her case is automatically moved to State District Court.
June 23rd there will be a trial on the two misdemeanor counts. No trial date has been set for the felony charge. Coppage-Williams is being held on a $50,000 bond for the felony. She would need to come up with $5,000 in cash to get out of jail while awaiting trial.
Officer Kerrie Orozco was killed in the line of duty as the Fugitive Task Force was trying to serve a warrant on Marcus Wheeler. Wheeler was armed with a Glock pistol and engaged in a gunfight with police. Officer Orozco was hit in the chest just above the edge of her bulletproof vest.
