A Richmond man has been arrested for stabbing his 78-year-old mother to death Sunday.

Richmond police arrested Ronnie Cook, 44, and charged him with the murder of his mother, Emma Cook. Ronnie Cook was arraigned on murder, robbery and grand larceny charges in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Monday morning.

Cook stabbed his mother to death and stole her car Sunday, according to prosecutors. The case is Richmond’s first homicide of 2014.

People were very emotional at the crime scene, an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Cedar Street in the Union Hill neighborhood. Family members said Emma Cook’s daughter found her dead in her apartment just before 5 p.m. Officers arrived on scene just 60 seconds after the 911 call came in.
