Police say the suspect behind an attack on a Center City pet-sitter is behind bars and being held on $2 million bail.
47-year-old Kenneth Todd is charged in the brutal attack which occurred July 25th on the 1300 block of Pine Street.
The victim, a 46-year-old Mary Ann McHenry, spoke exclusively to Action News earlier in the week.
“I just remembered he came in, he grabbed me by the throat and I just remember not being able to breathe,” she said.
The attack happened around 10:00 p.m. and the area was busy with people, homes and businesses.
Investigators say that didn’t stop Todd from stalking the dog walker who was watching after her neighbor’s pet and house.
The victim says she actually saw the suspect before the attack on Waverly Street. He asked for a cigarette and she gave him one.
She goes on to say that as soon as she entered her neighbor’s home, Todd wasn’t far behind demanding cash.
“He punched me in the face and at one point I was on the ground and I had always been told, ‘Use your body to your advantage, get on the ground and kick,’ so that what I started doing,” said McHenry.
Then she blacked out.
The homeowner Louis Backe, who was out of town when the incident occurred, showed Action News how the suspected attacker ransacked his house before stealing his laptop.
“I think it saved her life because the individual was looking for something, demanding money, assumed it was her house,” said Backe.
The victim was so badly beaten that she was taken to Jefferson University Hospital.
SVU detectives got involved and say their investigation led them to Todd, a transient who was already known by police for committing robberies and assaults in Center City.
In fact, he was just released from jail on a robbery conviction on July 3rd and never reported to his parole officer.
Those details the victim didn’t know until now.
“I want everything thrown at him and I want him to stay in jail that’s what I want,” said McHenry.
