A local man facing animal cruelty charges for beating his dog with a shovel and choking it with a chain appeared in a Hamilton County courtroom Monday for arraignment.
Witnesses saw Standley Bryant, 59 of Jackson Street, hit the dog several times in the head with a shovel and belt, court documents show.
Bryant is also accused of choking the dog by pulling it off the ground by a chain, police said.
Once arrested, Bryant went on to threaten physical harm to people, officers said. Bryant said he would shoot his neighbor in the face and kill her kids and family after police released him from jail. Bryant believed she called in the alleged abuse.
Police gave the mixed-breed dog to the SPCA for treatment of its wounds.
Bryant was given $50,000 bond for one count of animal cruelty and $50,000 bond for one count of menacing.
