A caregiver has been indicted on charges of elder neglect after the Forsyth County woman in her care died.

According to the indictment from Forsyth County Superior Court, Ileane Leverne Madison faces one count of neglect to an elder person and one count of exploitation and intimidation of elder persons.

Court records show Madison has been accused of purposefully depriving Sara Francis Cash, who was 81 at the time, of care to the extent that her health and well-being were jeopardized.

According to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s report, Cash was found in her room on July 7, 2014, covered in “deep black and purple bruises all over her body.”

Reports that Madison had pushed Cash down have not been substantiated, said Robin Regan, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, and are evidenced by lack of a homicide charge.

Cash’s daughter, Leslie Callaway, who lived upstairs in the same building on Jot Em Down Road in northeast Forsyth, said the incident happened on July 4, 2014.

Callaway had reportedly heard loud banging and noises coming from the basement apartment where her mother and live-in caregiver stayed.
