Although a suspect was named Tuesday, detectives continue to investigate the death of a Chillicothe woman and any possible relation to the missing women cases.
“There is a common thread in terms of the places that the victims frequented and some of the people they were associated with,” Ross County Prosecutor Matthew Schmidt said. “But in terms of the manner of what happened to these individuals, no, there is not a particular thing (connecting them).”
Sheriff George Lavender named 36-year-old Jason A. McCrary as the lead suspect in 38-year-old Timberly Claytor’s death, Tuesday at a news conference with local media, Chillicothe police Chief Keith Washburn and Schmidt.
Claytor’s body was found Friday near an abandoned house at 3213 Massieville Road with three gunshot wounds to the head. Lavender said there was a large amount of blood near the body, so a homicide investigation was launched at that time.
McCrary, a convicted sex offender, was taken into custody Saturday after the search of a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Massieville Road, where Lavender said McCrary was living. McCrary failed to register as a sex offender for the residence he was living in after being convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor over a decade ago, Schmidt said.
