The man suspected of killing a mother in Hopewell remains in jail. Ulysses Blanding Jr., 52, was arrested late Saturday night at a relative’s home after an hours-long manhunt.
He is accused of stabbing to death 28-year-old Catherine Lipford at their Davisville Court apartment on Saturday.
A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, was just steps from where Lipford took her last breath. “Her last words were ‘please somebody help me.’”
It was just before 4 p.m. when the neighbor said she heard Lipford and Blanding yelling inside their home. She was on her way across the street to try to help calm the two down when she saw the victim walk outside. “She was covered with blood at the time so she won’t [wasn’t] ok. But she was hollering for help then,” the concerned neighbor said. Police said Lipford collapsed on the ground where she died.
“She was a kind and sweet-hearted person. Always friendly, she was very polite,” the neighbor said. While she is still in shock the neighbor hopes a lesson can come from this tragedy. “We got to pull together and help one another because we never know what somebody’s going through.”
