Police have made an arrest in the killing of a Cranston woman in Providence last week.
Derell Johnson faced a judge Monday morning and was held on one count of murder, according to court officials.
He’s accused of shooting 21-year-old Briana Giorgio, who police said was found last Wednesday suffering from a gunshot wound in the area of Webster and Sterling Avenues. She later died at Rhode Island Hospital.
Police believe the violence stemmed from a drug deal gone bad. Providence Police Major David Lapatin said Monday it appeared as though Giorgio was the seller, and that there was a considerable amount of marijuana involved.
Lapatin said it’s not likely that any more arrests will be made in the case.
Johnson is set to appear in court again Monday afternoon for a violation of his probation.
