A Bakersfield man accused of rear-ending and killing two women while driving under the influence of alcohol last month told police he may have been driving at speeds of up to 90 mph, according to a newly released police report.
Witnesses also told investigators that 29-year-old Dontrell Collins was driving down Rosedale Highway in excess of the 50 mph speed limit minutes before police say he collided into the back of a car with three women inside in the early morning hours of Aug. 30.
The women’s car burst into flames, killing 27-year-old Jacklyn Kvasnicka and 22-year-old Pavinder Claire.
Witnesses said Collins exited his vehicle without injuries and walked up to the car on fire, cheering and yelling profanities, as if celebrating the deaths of the women.
“Oh my God, I (expletive) killed them!” said Collins, according to one witness.
Another person standing nearby told police Collins was yelling “woo” and clapping his hands, almost in a proud manner.
Collins told police he had one to three beers two hours before the crash.
He faces two felony counts of second-degree murder and charges including reckless driving.
