Black Driver in Custody After Hitting White Jogger and Leaving Her in Critical Condition

Tina Benner was run over by a Negro while she was out getting some exercise.

A driver suspected of hitting and leaving a jogger for dead on a Douglas County street is now in custody, deputies announced Wednesday evening during a news conference.

Markus Lide, 32, turned himself in a day after allegedly hitting Tina Benner while she was out jogging in preparation for the Denver Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon.

Benner was left bleeding on the side of the road not far from Crossland Way and near Quebec Street, across from Highland Heritage Regional Park, according to a spokesperson with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Benner suffered serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said during the briefing.

Lide is now being charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a serious bodily injury. 7NEWS was told during the initial investigation Lide was driving a 2010 red Infinity Sedan.
