A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend, in front of her children, is now charged with criminal homicide.
Arthur Leroy Whitfield, 51, was originally charged with attempted homicide, after police say he shot Holly George Embry, 36, on Dec. 1.
However, police say Embry died as a result of her injuries more than two weeks later.
When the shooting occurred, police said Whitfield broke into Embry’s Derry Township home and fired multiple shots at her while she was in bed.
“The 15-year-old daughter, fled that bedroom, and went to an adjacent room in the house, calling out for some of the people that were there, particularly the 21-year-old that was the daughter of Mr. Whitfield,” said State Police Tpr. Steve Limani. “The 21-year-old came out, observed her father shooting rounds into the doorway to the bedroom area where Ms. Embry was located.”
Whitfield also faces additional charges of burglary, persons not to possess a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.
