Officials say a North Charleston man accused of murdering a medical student in Ann Arbor, Michigan has been formally charged, and is facing additional home invasion charges.
Police arrested 21-year-old Shaquille Jones earlier this month at his North Charleston apartment. Jones is being charged in Washtenaw County with homicide, two counts of first degree home invasion, and conspiracy to commit home invasion.
He is being held without bond. A preliminary hearing will be held December 5.
The victim, 25-year-old Paul Dewolf, was found shot in the neck in July. Investigators say a co-worker found Dewolf dead in his fraternity house in the 200 block of N. Ingalls Street.
According to investigators, a tip led to Jones’ arrest. The tipster said someone wanted by Ann Arbor, Michigan police for murder was in the North Charleston area.
North Charleston police then arrested Jones at his apartment on Elms Plantation Boulevard. Officers say they also found two stolen guns in a duffle bag in the apartment.
Both guns were loaded, according to a police report.
Investigators say it appears the suspect did not know the victim. A motive for the murder has not been released.
