Letting Blacks drive is nigh as stupid as letting them vote.
WAVY:
A man accused of hitting a young mother with his car and leaving her for dead has just been indicted by a Surry County Grand Jury.
State Police say 47-year-old Christopher Jackson hit Angie Cartwright days before Christmas.
“It’s very unexplainable,” said Cartwright’s brother Cregg Cartwright. “It’s very devastating.”
For the Cartwight family, the devastation happened during a time meant for family. Cartwright was taken away December 20.
“All I know is that she was walking down the street and she was hit,” added Cartwright’s sister Jenny Caldwell.
30-year-old Angie Cartwright had just left a party in Surry County. She was walking behind her boyfriend down narrow Burnt Mill Road when she was struck.
“The biggest thing was breaking it to her three kids that they weren’t going to see their mom anymore,” said Cartright’s brother Cregg. “It wasn’t easy.”
Cartwright died a short time later. State Police say the driver just kept going. A couple hours later they found his car tucked behind a mobile home about a mile away. According to court records Christopher Jackson told the trooper he had been drinking.
“He knew not to get behind that wheel,” Caldwell added. “You don’t drink and drive and get behind that wheel. He took a mother, a daughter and a sister her from us.”
The spot where Cartwight was killed is now marked with a cross.
“My mom won’t ever get to see her daughter again and my mom has always talked about never wanting to bury one of her kids,” Caldwell said.
Jackson was first charged with felony hit and run. Troopers weren’t able to charge him with DUI, because it had been three hours since the crash. He was booked into the Riverside Regional Jail in Hopewell and he is out on bond. Tuesday, a grand jury indicted him for involuntary manslaughter. Family says this is the first step towards justice.
“I can’t forgive him and I don’t know if I will be able to,” Cartwright added. “We won’t even be able to think about until there is justice served.”
Jenny Caldwell is now taking care of Cartwright’s three young children. They’ve set up a fund for anybody who wants to help them out.
