An inmate is facing more charges after a physical altercation at the Summit County Jail on Tuesday.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office says at 9:25 a.m., Jeffrey J. Conrad produced a weapon made from items located within the facility, and stabbed Dennis C. McClelland several times before deputies responded to the scene to gain control of the incident.
McClelland was treated onsite by the medical staff before being transported to Akron General Medical Center for further treatment. Once there, McClelland was treated for his injuries and later returned to the Summit County Jail.
Conrad is now facing additional charges of attempted murder and felonious assault.
He was originally sent to jail after being charged with the stabbing death of Amanda Russell at her Cuyahoga Falls home. The 40-year-old mother was found dead in the backyard on Aug. 28. Conrad, Russell’s ex-boyfriend, was charged with aggravated murder.
