A man wanted for a home invasion has been taken into custody.
Police were searching Friday near 37th and Meridian streets for Taiwan Lundy, who was wanted in connection to the home invasion on Spring Mill Road.
Lundy turned himself in to police at local church after family members convinced him to turn himself in.
Friday evening, police confirmed they also arrested James Phillips in connection with the Spring Mill Road robbery on charges of assisting a criminal and theft.
Former IMPD Deputy Chief, and current Marion County Sheriff, Lt. Bill Benjamin negotiated the surrender at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church in the 5500 block of East 38th Street Friday afternoon.
“I arrived there at St. Mark’s Church, went into the sanctuary where the family was holding hands, counseling Tiawan, and then we all prayed and they entered my vehicle and we came downtown,” said Lieutenant, William Benjamin.
According to Pastor Joy Thornton, who helped facilitate the surrender, Lundy did not want to turn himself in until Saturday. That’s until Lundy’s sister made an emotional plea with her big brother.
“That final straw was the baby sister,” said Thornton. ” With great tears and embracing that led him in a peaceful way to resolve it today.”
Police believe Lundy jumped out of a window of an apartment, three stories up, and landed on a car.
