Magdalena Welna was murdered by her Black admirer.

A former medical school student committed suicide with poison half a mile away from where he stabbed a hotel receptionist to death in the street, an inquest has heard.

Victor Banjo Ogundunmade, 27, of Croombs Road, Newham, attacked Magdalena Welna with a large hunting knife in Valentines Road, Ilford, on Halloween last year, before fleeing after being spotted.

Mr Ogundunmade then ingested the cyanide and was found dying in Auckland Road an hour and a half later with Ms Welna’s blood on his feet.

He was pronounced dead at King George Hospital, Goodmayes, later that night.

A note left in Mr Ogundunmade’s bag read: “I loved her dearly but she gave me nothing but grief, now she has to experience the pain I did in a physical way.

“She was too indifferent, too ambivalent […] now she has to pay the ultimate price.”

Senior coroner Ms Nadia Persaud heard how Mr Ogundunmade told his family that Ms Welna was his girlfriend, although in court it emerged that she thought their relationship was only plutonic.

Lead investigator Det Insp Andrew Kelly said Mr Ogundunmade, who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008, “was constantly texting her”.
