Shannon Kleeman was raped and killed by her step mother’s Black neighbor while she was house-sitting for her.

The man accused of killing a woman in the basement of a far east side home was found guilty on Thursday.

According to police, 21-year-old Shannon Kleeman was found dead in the basement of her step-mother’s home in the 600 block of Linwood Avenue in March 2014. Police arrested 52-year-old Morice Ervin in June 2014 on murder and rape charges.

A judge found Ervin guilty on both counts.

After killing the innocent White woman Morice Ervin went back next door, climbed into bed next to his wife and used her for an alibi.

Police say that Ervin lived in a neighboring home when the murder took place.

The Marion County Coroner’s office says official cause of death was a shotgun wound to the head. Police say DNA aided in solving the case.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11.
