Police are on the hunt for a suspect they say beat an elderly Southaven woman.
Investigators have issued warrants for the arrest of 23-year-old Kwame M. Becton of Southaven.
On December 31, 2013, Southaven officers were called to a home in the 5700 block of Garden Walk E. regarding an injured person. When they arrived, they noticed the homeowners car was missing and the front door was open. Once inside, they found 86-year-old Georgia McKee with bruises and injuries to her face. McKee told officers she could not remember how she got the injuries or what happened to her car. McKee was treated from her injuries and is recovering with relatives in Oxford.
Investigators say Becton attacked McKee, stole her 2003 Chevrolet Impala and drove to Chicago. The car was found in the Chicago area last Friday and has since been returned to the Southaven Police Department.
Neighbors say Becton lived across the street from his victim. When neighbor Kevin Byrd was shown the photo of Becton, he said, “Yeah, I know that guy.”
“That’s what everybody around the neighborhood has been saying. That he lived in that house,” said Blake Herrell as he pointed across the street.
Those living in that house across the street would only talk through a closed door, saying Becton used to live there, but was now gone.
Authorities believe Becton is still in the Chicago area and are working with investigators there to find him.
