Joe Michael Boose pleaded guilty to a second degree murder charge related to the May 2013 shooting death of Katelynn Gourley.
Boose, 21, was sentenced to a total of 26 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Twenty years will be served for the Second Degree Murder charge, and six years will be served for an Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm charge, according to Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato.
In May of 2013, Rockford Police were called to 610 College Ave. for a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Gourley lying in the driveway. Witnesses say they saw Gourley and Boose get in to an argument when Boose pulled out a gun and started shooting.
An autopsy found that Gourley died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
