A Carmel man accused of raping a Ball State University student in April had a warrant issued for his arrest last week after officials in Delaware and Hamilton counties erroneously allowed him to be released from their custody.
Aaron Jeffery King II, 24, is charged in Delaware Circuit Court 4 with rape, criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement and strangulation for the alleged sexual attack on the student at her Muncie apartment in the 2900 block of North Silvertree Lane.
According to court documents, the alleged victim called 911 April 24 to report she “had just been raped by her ex-boyfriend, Aaron King.” In a three-hour interview with Muncie police investigators, the victim — who was admitted to the hospital — said King visited her apartment, and when she went to leave for class, he “physically picked her up and carried her to the bedroom.”
“(The victim) told me she kicked and tried to fight King off but was unable to,” Muncie police Detective Jami Brown wrote.
From there, the victim said King forced her to engage in various sex acts and strangled her until she “felt weak” and “saw white.” King is also accused of using duct tape on the victim’s hands and face.
King was found the next morning in a Beech Grove, Ind., motel room, where he was taken into custody by Muncie police officers and transported to the Muncie Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division for an interview. King was then arrested and booked into the Delaware County jail, where he was being held under a $60,500 bond until Wednesday, when he was able to post bail, according to Lt. Christopher Hoose, commander at the Delaware County jail.
From there, according to a jail detainer document, King was supposed to be immediately released into the custody of officials in Hamilton County, where he was to begin serving his sentence on a 2012 resisting law enforcement conviction in that county — but that didn’t happen.
Hoose said the jail detainer document ordering King’s hold in the Hamilton County jail — which was signed by Delaware County officials in October — was not in their computer system. He was unsure whether the document never exchanged hands between Hamilton and Delaware county officials, or was misplaced and never filed by those the Delaware County jail.
