A federal grand jury has handed down an indictment formally charging a 24-year-old University of Southern Mississippi student arrested in October with one count of possession of child pornography involved in interstate commerce.

The Hattiesburg American reported that the grand jury voted to indict Miles Justin McNairy for possessing a laptop allegedly containing explicit depictions of minors.

McNairy was ordered detained pending trial after FBI agents arrested him Oct. 22.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael T. Parker wrote in his detention order that McNairy posed a threat to the community, citing some 160 alleged illegal pornographic files on McNairy’s computer alongside the suspect’s purported admissions of previous sexual contact with minor relatives to FBI agents.
