The Irish garda that was shot while holidaying in New Orleans is reporting to have told his Black attackers to ‘Go f*** yourself’ when they demanded money from him.

Police have identified one of the suspects in the shooting of an Irish police officer in the early morning hours on January 27.

NOPD detectives have issued an arrest warrant for 40-year-old Melvin Galle Jr. for attempted murder and armed robbery in connection with the shooting. A second suspect is being sought, but police do not have an identification on that person yet.

The victim, 30-year-old Brian Hanrahan was shot in the leg and lower back in the 2200 block of New Orleans Street just before 6 a.m.

Melvin Galle Jr has been arrested for attempted murder and armed robbery in connection with the shooting.

Hanrahan, a police officer in Ireland who was visiting the Crescent City, apparently had gone to the area of the shooting on the recommendation of someone he met in town, who said he could get an early morning drink. Once at the location, police said Hanrahan went to an ATM and withdrew money, which is when they say Galle and another man confronted him, demanding money.

Hanrahan was shot and the suspects fled.
