A Queens teenager whom police dubbed a “serial sexual predator” pleaded guilty Thursday to two Valley Stream sex attacks.
Nassau County Judge Angelo Delligatti said he planned to sentence Nashane Peterkin to 20 years in prison at a February hearing.
Peterkin, 17, of Springfield Gardens, pleaded guilty to charges that included first-degree rape, committing a criminal sex act, strangulation and assault.
Police previously said they had used DNA and a witness identification to link Peterkin to the crimes.
“Nashane Peterkin committed very serious violent crimes that will be with his victims forever and terrified the community, and he will now face the very serious consequences for them,” District Attorney Kathleen Rice said. “His victims and their neighbors can sleep more soundly knowing that this threat to the community will be behind bars for a very long time.”
In court, Nassau Assistant District Attorney Amanda Burke called the defendant’s actions heinous and said they had a scarring effect. She said a psychologist had diagnosed Peterkin with sexual sadism disorder and conduct disorder.
Defense attorney Michael Dreishpoon declined to comment after his client’s guilty plea. Peterkin ignored questions as court officers led him away in handcuffs.
Authorities have said Peterkin tried to rape a 30-year-old woman — then seven months pregnant — in August as she walked near the Long Island Rail Road’s Valley Stream station.
Police said the suspect was riding a bicycle and grabbed her as he pedaled by. The victim told police she fought back, and the suspect then fled on his bike.
Authorities have said Peterkin raped a woman in her 60s in Valley Stream State Park in early September as she walked alone on a trail. The suspect choked and beat that victim, breaking some of her ribs and bruising her face, authorities said.
Police arrested Peterkin, then 16, in Queens in September, after an investigation that included handing out fliers with a suspect sketch on them.
Authorities had investigated Peterkin in connection with a Lynbrook attack minutes before the incident near the Valley Stream train station. But Shams M. Tarek, spokesman for the district attorney’s office, said yesterday there wasn’t sufficient evidence linking Peterkin to that crime.
