Michael Raymond Bailey was only 22 when he was killed by a Black robber.

A Colonial Heights man has been charged with the murder of a McDonald’s employee who was taking a break outside the restaurant July 20 in the 5100 block of Nine Mile Road.

Deonte Maurice Jenkins Jr., 19, made a brief appearance in Henrico Circuit Court this morning and will return to court next week when a trial date could be set. He was indicted earlier this month on the murder charge after initially being arrested for attempted robbery and conspiracy charges.

Jenkins faces three other felonies in connection with the shooting death of McDonald’s employee Michael Raymond Bailey Jr, 22, of Sandston.

Another man Christopher Pitts, 22, of the 600 block of N. Laburnum Ave., is facing multiple felonies in the case and was arrested with Jenkins shortly after the shooting.

Bailey was working two jobs and died shortly after the 11:15 p.m. shooting at VCU Medical Center.
