This is the shocking moment a bouncer was stabbed in the back by a knife-wielding thug when a mass brawl broke out at a nightclub.
Matthew Withers was trying to break up a fight at BZR bar and club in Nottingham when he was stabbed in the back with a six-inch blade.
The 31-year-old doorman required life-saving surgery after Jordan Hamilton, 21, launched the vicious attack on April 6.
Another victim Callum Northridge, 27, lost three pints of blood after being stabbed twice in the leg and once in the buttocks outside the popular nightspot.
Hamilton was jailed for four years at Nottingham Crown Court after he admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and wounding last Friday.
Last night both victims slammed the ‘joke’ sentence handed out to the attacker and called for tougher penalties on knife crimes.
Mr Withers, who now wears a stab vest to work, accused the criminal justice system of letting him down.
The father-of-three said: ‘Four years is a joke. I’m only here because of the operation I had.
‘I had about a month off work and it made me think about carrying on doing my job, which is a shame because I enjoy it.
‘I’ve had to buy a stab vest to wear to work. It still affects me. I was walking through the city recently and walked past a group of lads and it made me nervous.
‘I just want to know why he did it and why he had the knife. Why he feels like he needed to have a knife in Nottingham.
‘The sentence for carrying a knife is five years, and he used one to stab two people but still only got four years. It should be more.
‘I feel like the justice system has let me down.’
