A man has turned himself in to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police in connection to the home invasion and shooting of Semantha Bunce.
Police say Reco Latur Dawkins Jr. is being charged with attempted murder, felony breaking and entering, and conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering.
Sunday morning, Dawkins reportedly turned himself in to the custody of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Unit. He was interviewed by detectives then taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where he was in custody Sunday afternoon.
Semantha Bunce was critically injured in the shooting and, as of Sunday afternoon, was still recovering.
A family friend, Hollie Ritchie served with Bunce in the National Guard, tells WBTV that Semantha is receiving visitors, eating, talking and walking. Ritchie says she visited her friend in the hospital just after the Bunce’s found out about the arrest. She says, “There were tears.” The family was ecstatic and relieved, but are still concerned about the other intruder.
Tuesday, police say Bunce was inside her home along the 6000 block of Matlea Court just before 9:51 a.m. with her infant child, when police say someone kicked in her front door and shot her. The shooter then ran from the home.
Bunce had to be transported to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with critical injuries. The child was not injured. Neighbors tell WBTV Bunce’s husband was at work and her other child was at school when the shooting happened.
