A township man who beat his mother so severely she lapsed into a coma and died three months later will serve up to 18 years in prison, authorities said Monday.
Jamaar Best-Figueroa, 27, pleaded guilty last week to a count of aggravated manslaughter in the August 2013 of Shauna Figueroa, 52. He has agreed to serve up to 18 years in prison, officials said.
The assault occurred May 30, 2013 in the Figueroa home on Englishtown Road in Old Bridge. Shauna Figueroa was taken unconscious and with head injuries and severe blood loss to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Best-Figueroa fled the scene but was arrested on June 1.
