A woman suspected of cutting an unborn baby from a woman’s belly in Longmont won’t face murder charges for the baby’s death, according to the Boulder County district attorney.
CBS4 has confirmed that District Attorney Stan Garnett won’t charge Dynel Lane, 34, with murder, but she will still face a variety of other charges.
Police say Michelle Wilkins, 26, had answered a Craigslist ad for baby clothes placed by Lane. Lane is accused of stabbing Wilkins and removing her baby. Lane was arrested at Longmont United Hospital with a deceased baby. Police say she said she had a miscarriage.
Wilkins left the hospital on Wednesday and is recovering at home.
“We cannot predict what lies ahead for Michelle,” the Wilkins family said in a statement released Wednesday. “What we can say is that we have all been deeply moved by the many people who have reached out to Michelle and her partner to share their own personal stories of tragedies they’ve endured and how they managed to first just survive and then eventually start to heal. That alone has given us the strength to get up and face each day.”
