You’d think after having been proved to not be a Russian agent, Donald Trump would feel less pressure to try to prove to the world that he’s not a Russian agent.
But nah.
The White House warned Russia and other countries backing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro against sending troops and military equipment, saying the United States would view such actions as a “direct threat” to the region’s security.
Two days after U.S. President Donald Trump said “Russia has to get out” of Venezuela, national security adviser John Bolton issued a second warning in a strongly worded formal statement.
“We strongly caution actors external to the Western Hemisphere against deploying military assets to Venezuela, or elsewhere in the Hemisphere, with the intent of establishing or expanding military operations,” Bolton said.
“We will consider such provocative actions as a direct threat to international peace and security in the region. We will continue to defend and protect the interests of the United States, and those of our partners in the Western Hemisphere,” he said.
Two Russian air force planes arrived outside Caracas on Saturday, believed to be carrying nearly 100 Russian special forces and cybersecurity personnel. Russia said on Thursday it had sent “specialists” to Venezuela under a military cooperation deal but insisted they posed no threat to regional stability, brushing aside Trump’s threat.

I wish that John Bolton’s son Michael Bolton was in charge of starting wars. He would start wars of peace.
He could conquer the world with love.
How can a man of hatred like John Bolton give birth to such a man of love?
This “oh but it’s on our side of the line” is nice-sounding, fair-sounding. But only to someone who has no idea what the hell is going on on planet earth.
The entire history of the planet earth since the end of the cold war has been about the US encroaching on Russia and the East generally. To come out with this “stay on your side” nonsense just demonstrates the lack of any coherent narrative surrounding Venezuela.
But the Russian troops are already there. There are already Chinese there.
I don’t think Trump wants to do this thing.
But he might, if he thinks it will win him 2020.
And unfortunately, the only thing he thinks is whatever the last person he had a conversation with told him.
I guess it will just come down to whether or not Jared thinks it’s a good idea. And I haven’t heard much from him on the topic, so maybe we’re good.
