Well I’ll be gosh-darned.
RT:
UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. He is the first British foreign secretary to visit Russia in five years, amid strained relations between the two countries.
During the joint news conference with his Russian counterpart, Johnson said that he is “a committed Russophile,” despite the fact that Russia and the UK are going through a “very difficult patch” in their relations.
Lavrov said he trusts Johnson and admitted he had seen “no hostility” and called the “friendly” nature of the talks helpful.
The two nations have fallen out over a range of issues, including the Ukrainian crisis and the Syrian war.
Johnson and Lavrov have been expected to discuss UK-Russia ties, as well as international issues, cooperation on Syria, and the North Korean crisis, among other things.
You know, I like Boris.
I think most people probably do.
I do not, however, believe that he will be any better than Theresa May when he assumes his position as PM.
They are putting a whole lot of effort into making it seem like he will be, but he is clearly and absolutely a part of the same clique and simply playing the role of populist.
Or maybe he believes some of it. Who knows. He probably believes it a little bit, at least.
But I can pretty well guarantee you that he’s going to be a massive, massive disappointment, that all of these positions he’s taken in this hype-fest before he becomes PM are going to be out the window in a matter of weeks.
He is doing pro-Brexit, pro-Russia and anti-immigrant stuff because the establishment knows that this is what the people actually want.
I don’t usually make hard predictions but I’m going to make one now: Boris Johnson as PM will just be a less repulsive version of Theresa May. It will start out good, with a lot of populist talk, and that will go away quickly.
