Between May 26th and June 4th of 1940, more than 300,000 Allied soldiers were evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk in Northern France due to increasing German aggression.
Like most soldiers in World War II, these troops were a diverse bunch: Somali grenadiers fought beside British marksmen, Inuit medics offered aid to Flemish privates, and female colonels gave orders to genderfluid lieutenants.
Naturally, most Hollywood movies about World War II celebrate this diversity.
But there’s one filmmaker in Hollywood who isn’t impressed that “bitches” and “blackamoors” fought in World War II. In fact, this man was so disgusted by this “diversity bollocks” in WWII that he wrote and directed a new movie about Dunkirk to completely whitewash it.
I’m talking, of course, about Christopher Nolan.
Nolan is well-known on set for racially abusing Black assistants, often by placing nooses inside their dressing rooms and uploading their reactions to YouTube.
Most film critics are afraid to speak out against the “British Bulldog” for fear of being blacklisted, but one brave man has put his neck on the line to expose Nolan’s limitless bigotry.
Unfortunately, he’s received nothing but abuse for it.
A film critic has been ridiculed after claiming that there were not enough women and ‘actors of colour’ in World War II movie Dunkirk.
USA Today writer Brian Truitt hit out at the lack of diversity in the movie which revolves around the British Expeditionary Force – an army which did not have females among its ranks.
Despite his historical blunder, the critic generally gave the film by director Christopher Nolan a glowing review – going as far as praising the ‘real-life heroism’ of the famous evacuation in 1940.
He added: ‘Nolan’s ambitious story revolves around three tales unfolding at different times over land, sea, and air, only coming together at the end.’
But Truitt lamented the film’s lack of diversity claiming ‘the fact that there are only a couple of women and no lead actors of colour may rub some the wrong way’.
He has now been criticised on Twitter with one user joking: ‘Historical accuracy… how dare they!’
Editor of National Review Online Charles W Cooke jokingly tweeted: ‘It was highly problematic that the British Expeditionary Force and the French army stranded such a monochrome crew.’
Washington Free Beacon’s Alex Grisworld added: “USA Today’s Dunkirk review is officially as absurd as conservative parodies of the social justice crowd.’
Like most liberals, Brian Truitt exudes masculine vigor.
Look, I get that White men like Christopher Nolan want to boost the image of White men to the world, even if it’s at the expense of others. It’s natural and healthy to care about one’s in-group.
But we’re not talking about a work of fiction here. Dunkirk was real, and African bushwomen were a part of it. Completely purging them from the narrative disrespects their contributions to the war effort and assaults everything that the Allies fought for.
It’s time for Christopher Nolan and his supporters to grow up and realize that if it were not for the sacrifices of Aboriginal brigadier generals, we’d all be speaking German right now.
