They hackin ereybuddy out der.

Every muffugguh in da whole street gettin dey ass hacked.

Sputnik:

US officials are desperately trying to find proof of some imaginary Russian-sponsored hack attacks on America.

Hackers working for Russia penetrated the US electric utilities network last year, which could have caused blackouts, The Wall Street Journal has claimed, citing federal officials.

According to Jonathan Gomer, who is chief of industrial safety analysis at the US Department of Homeland Security, hackers from the group Dragonfly or Energetic Bear, allegedly sponsored by the Russian government, put themselves inside the control rooms of protected and isolated networks of US power companies.

Gomer also claimed that after gaining access to the energy networks, the hackers then collected confidential information, such as the configuration of networks and, data on the equipment used.

Gomer did not name the companies affected by cyberattacks, saying only that “hundreds” of them had been hacked.

According to the newspaper, the hackers resorted to all kinds of ploys to extract passwords of “hundreds of their victims” and gain access to energy utilities networks.

Here’s the original WSJ article.

It’s behind a hard paywall.

It’s not worth one euro for me to find out it’s complete bullshit. I already know this.

Plus I’m not sure the WSJ wouldn’t sell my credit card number to Albanians.

They also made this claim (or something very similar) earlier this year in the New York Times and people were like “lolwut” so they dropped it.

Hacking Attribution is always a Hoax

Just so you understand, anyone making any positive claim about an attribution of a hacking is lying. Every web security professional will tell you this.

Especially when you are talking about a state sponsored operation – why, if they are capable of these things, would they not be capable of covering themselves?

Anyway, in this case, they’re not even producing any evidence of the hacking at all. Just like with the DNC. They don’t even show you anything.

Not the Best War Idea

I will say though – if the US decided to fight a war with anyone based on the cyber, that would be a very bad move. The US is the only country that was stupid enough to digitalize their entire infrastructure for the purpose of saving a few cents per year. No other country was that stupid.

Everything in the United States can be hacked. You could shut off bridges, electrical grids. Make fountains flood hospitals. Make traffic lights change to a pattern that causes head-on collisions. You could actually lock people out of their own refrigerators in a lot of cases. You can turn off people’s cars while they’re driving.

All of this stuff was digitalized.

And Russia and China have hackers.

At this point, Russia is getting falsely accused of so much hacking, they might as well just start doing it for real. Why not? They couldn’t talk about it any more than they are right now if it was actually real.
