Look, I’m not trying to say he didn’t have some good points. It’s just that the core ideology of Libertarianism is insane and demonstrably unfeasible.
I want to have fond memories of Ron Paul.
But he keeps destroying them.
He is basically the reverse Paul Ryan at this point.
He’s got a new column out claiming that Trump’s wall is part of a conspiracy to lock people in America.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s recent speech on immigration really missed the point. I understand Trump’s frustration over the U.S. government’s inability to control the U.S. borders and keep out those who would come to this country illegally. Trump was right that the media ignore legitimate questions we have on our immigration policy and he is right that special interests have a great interest in maintaining the status quo.
However when it comes to really solving the immigration problem he gets it all wrong. And instead of making us more free and prosperous, his solutions will accelerate our downward slide toward authoritarianism.
First let’s consider his idea of building a big wall between the U.S. and Mexico. It is said that all one needs to get over an eight foot fence is a nine foot ladder. Or perhaps a shovel. So walls are never very good at keeping people out.

But they are very good at keeping people in. Just ask the East Germans. The communist government claimed in 1961 that it had to build a wall around the portion of Berlin it controlled to keep the population safe from the evil capitalist wreckers and saboteurs. It didn’t take long for the world to realize that the real threat to the East German leaders was that the people trapped in East Berlin would try to get out. We have all seen the horrific videos of East German civilians risking — and losing — their lives to escape that prison of razor wire and cinder block.
Well, according to you, they could have just used a ladder. The wall itself doesn’t know if you’re inside or outside of it. The physical nature of a wall remains the same either way. Not sure why I would have to explain that. It’s like saying “a river is easy to cross if you’re coming down from the north – but it’s impossible if your going up from the south.”
Obviously, any logistical element which makes it more difficult to go one way across a wall could just as easily be applied to the other side of the wall.
But as you bring up the Berlin wall, let’s talk about that. Communism is the big bad enemy of the Libertarian, but the fact is that any oppression that was suffered in the DDR in comparison to the current situation of genocide through mass brown immigration into united Germany is like a paper cut compared to a shotgun blast to the head at point-blank range.
This authoritarian oppressor boogieman is something we have already seen. We know what it is. We know that people survive it. What people do not survive is demographic replacement.
Even if authoritarianism were exactly like the caricature of cartoonish communist oppression that Libertarians present, it would be infinitely preferable to multiculturalism. No contest.
And the fact is, the DDR was a lot healthier, happier society than the degenerate West. They had families and traditional values which the Libertarian version of the “open free market” will always destroy.
And the really problematic bottom line here is that liberalism itself leads to a negative form of authoritarianism. It’s what the West is living under now. Total social freedom and capitalist materialism leads to a collapse of the social order which creates a chaos situation where people then demand the government enforce policies to attempt to impose some form of order.
Ron Paul Libertarianism is the attempt to impose a system designed for a strict Christian agrarian society to the modern post-industrial and largely secular world. If Jefferson had known of the coming invention of the steam engine and the process of social, economic and political transformation that it started, there is no way he would have maintained the same positions with regards to the role of government in society.
Libertarians also just flat-out lie about what the Founding Fathers believed, in the same way liberals do. Far from being an unlimited freedom for everyone kinda guy, Jefferson supported the death penalty for homosexuals. He also owned many slaves.
Paul goes on to admit “some may claim” his conspiracy theory about Trump planning to lock people in America as part of a one-way wall plot is “wild.”
What a wild conspiracy theory, some may claim. The wall would never be meant to keep us from leaving. Well ask the IRS. Under a tax enforcement provision passed in 2015, the US government claimed the right to cancel any American citizen’s passport if Washington claims it is owed money.
Trump also made E-Verify the center of his immigration speech. He said, “We will ensure that E-Verify is used to the fullest extent possible under existing law, and we will work with Congress to strengthen and expand its use across the country.”
While preventing those here illegally from being able to gain employment may appeal to many who would like to protect American jobs, E-Verify is the worst possible solution. It is a police state non-solution, as it would require the rest of us legal American citizens to carry a biometric national ID card connected to a government database to prove that the government allows us to work. A false positive would result in financial disaster for millions of American families, as one would be forced to fight a faceless government bureaucracy to correct the mistake. Want to put TSA in charge of deciding if you are eligible to work?
This is all just pure tinfoil.
Firstly, any picture ID is a “biometric” ID – because all “biometric” means is a computer program capable of facial-recognition – and all state-issued ID cards are connected to a government database. This happens because computers exist, not because of a police state.
And all employers who aren’t purposefully trying to hire illegal immigrants already require someone to show a state ID before hiring them for a laundry list of (presumably many very obvious) technical and practical reasons.
As far as the government tracking where you work in a database – they already do that through the tax system anyway.
The TSA doesn’t run E-Verify as Paul claims.
Talking about the threat of “biometric federal databases” is just a way of using dishonest language to invoke hysteria through summoning up images of a sci-fi dystopia.
Using manipulative, dishonest trigger-language is a key tactic of conspiracy-mongering Libertarian kooks.
The battle against illegal immigration is a ploy to gain more control over our lives. We are supposed to be terrified of the hoards of Mexicans streaming into our country and thus grant the government new authority over the rest of us. But in fact a Pew study found that between 2009 and 2014 there was a net loss of 140,000 Mexican immigrants from the United States. Yes, this is a government “solution” in search of a real problem.
Yet in that same time period, we watched people pouring across our border. Ah, but you said “Mexican,” and most of those new-entries during that time period were from Central and South America.
Tricky, tricky, Mr. Paul.
Also, the Pew study he cites is admittedly based on federal government data (which is apparently entirely based on self-reporting surveys), and uses the magical 11 million number. I thought the federal government was evil and all they did was lie, Mr. Paul? But on the issue of illegal Mexican immigration, they’re telling the truth?
Everyone with one or more eyes in their head knows that there are a whole hell of a lot more brown people in our country now than there were in 2009, whatever country they’re from.
How to tackle the real immigration problem? Eliminate incentives for those who would come here to live off the rest of us, and make it easier and more rational for those who wish to come here legally to contribute to our economy. No walls, no government databases, no biometric national ID cards. But not a penny in welfare for immigrants. It’s really that simple.
No, it isn’t that simple. It is of course simple, but your argument is stupid.
Most illegal Mexicans actually do come to work. That’s a fact. They come to steal jobs from Americans by working them at lower wages while they sleep in rows, living 40 to an apartment. They will of course claim benefits if they can – why wouldn’t they? – but that is not their prime directive. Their prime directive is to work low-wage jobs at lower wages than Americans can afford to work.
Ironically, the real welfare waste is on the White Americans who can’t work because the jobs have all been stolen by Mexicans.
Illegal immigrants are “living off the rest of us” by offering cheap labor – which proves the international capitalist dream of the Libertarians is a lot of delusional claptrap.
Finally Over
A lot of White advocates supported Ron Paul Libertarianism because it allowed for certain basic things they liked through reinstating freedom of association. But this slight positive for Whites was just an incidental side-effect of an ideology which would ultimately bury the White race in North America in brown sludge.
It is glorious that Libertarianism is dead in the same way it is glorious that “conservatism” is dead.
Paul even lost Alex Jones, who was his number one fanboi for two solid decades (of course, we know that Jones switched up his game for financial reasons, but that really just makes the point even stronger).
It is worth celebrating.
