The Chinese are just having a raff here.

The US has formally complained to China over several incidents of its pilots being irritated by lasers it says are coming from a Chinese base in Djibouti.
The Pentagon said it had asked China to investigate several “very serious incidents”.
It said people at the east African base had been shining military-grade lasers at US pilots coming in to land.
China has rejected the allegations, saying they are “inconsistent with facts”.
A foreign ministry spokeswoman told reporters that the reports had been carefully verified and the US had been informed they were not true.
“You can remind relevant people in the US to pay attention to facts and not to make groundless accusations,” she added.
Let’s be real here. This is kind of a dick move. I used to hate kids who would play around with laser pointers in school.
I mean the concept was great, but the execution was terrible.
They’d just point it at other kids’ eyes instead of messing around with the teachers as they should have and they would get it confiscated and then the school started a “zero-tolerance” policy that meant kids getting suspended for bringing them to school – and then the fun totally dried up.
So this comes off as intentionally annoying from the Chinese. I don’t think they realize how much laser pointers can piss people off.
Also, I didn’t know they had a base in Djibouti.
But it makes sense when you think about it.
There are these vital chokepoints around the world that are almost all controlled by the US Navy through which the vast majority of Chinese oil supplies and goods flow.
If these chokepoints are shut down, China is in big trouble.
So it makes sense that they’re starting to build bases in these crucial areas. Djibouti is right around the horn of Africa, in one of these vital choke-points. So that explains that.
China needs to step up its game though.
Russia’s out there in Syria bombing ISIS and shooting down missiles and doing work. But they’re just sitting there in their dinky little base and pointing lasers at ppl smdh.
