I’ll tell you one thing about the apocalypse. You’re not going to need food. What you’re going to need is guns and bullets.

Then you can kill others who have food and take it. You can also take their women as sex slaves.

And I’ll tell you: $6000 can buy a whole lot of ammo.

Fox News:

If you’ve ever fretted about what to snack on during an apocalypse, Costco has got you covered. The wholesale superstore has rolled out a $6,000 food kit featuring 36,000 servings of food that can feed a family of four for a year, according to its online listing.

“Enjoy the comfort in knowing you have the essential foods your family will need to survive an emergency or natural disaster!” Issaquah, Wash. headquartered chain writes of the package. Offering roughly 2,000 calories a day per person and a shelf life up to 25 years for the freeze dried items, the Nutristore 1-Year Premium Food Kit averages out to $0.17 per portion, Costco says.

From elbow macaroni pasta to instant milk, dehydrated potatoes, beef and chicken TVP as well as freeze-dried green beans, dehydrated apples and a mysterious “butter powder”, the kit certainly offers culinary creativity in its sheer size.

Costco further sweetens the deal by including shipping and handling in the $6,000 price tag, delivering the 1,800 package straight to your door “packaged discreetly for privacy in shipping.” Though the New York Times points out that Costco has been selling emergency survival kits since 2010, interest in doomsday packages has spiked in the wake of rising tensions between the U.S. and North Korea.

Though Costco declined tell the Detroit Free Press how many doomsday kits they’ve sold to date, they did describe the Nutristore 1-Year Premium Food Kit as a “great starter kit for a family who wanted to prepare for any kind of disaster.”

In all seriousness though, think about it: how is a family of 4 going to sit around for a year and eat food in a Walking Dead type scenario? Assuming they don’t live in some remote mountain fortress – which most people do not – and if they do, they can just grow their own food rather than snorting powdered butter.

If things go full Mad Max, your main concern is going to be shooting the black people who are trying to eat you.

Then after the blacks are all dead – within the first 6-8 months, for sure – you’re going to be dealing with Negan types.

There is no scenario in which you sit in your house and eat packaged food for a year.

I go back and forth on whether or not things ever will go full Mad Max. But I think there is no problem with preparing for the worst.

So do weapons training, play violent video games – maybe stock-up on ammo.

But again, stocking up on ammo – not hugely helpful, unless you have a fortress. If you live in a house that is not highly defensible, you’re going to have to leave the ammo anyway. So really, all you need is a “bugout bag,” a rifle and a sidearm.

The most valuable thing you could have in the case of the apocalypse is training.

And a pack to hail.
