A Stoke-on-Trent holiday-maker accused of attacking a woman when she refused sex has been freed from a Turkish jail and allowed to fly home.
Declan Marshall was released after his lawyer argued he had spent five months in jail and should return home while more evidence is sought following his arrest in the sunshine resort of Marmaris.
The 27-year-old was understood to be back in Stoke-on-Trent at the weekend amid concerns he will not return to Turkey to face trial.
He was detained after fellow tourist Emma Higginson, aged 35, suffered fractures to her skull, eye sockets and nose in a vicious attack in a hotel room following a night out in Icmeler on September 3 last year.
