This stupid Russia hoax is the milker that keeps on pumping.
The nerve of this move is a little bit shocking even to me.
It would have been one thing if they’d done it way back when the fire was hot, but at this point, government bodies have already declared this was a hoax and the Mueller Sanhedrin is close to being forced to admit the same.
RT:
The Democratic National Committee lawsuit against the Trump campaign, the Russian government and WikiLeaks looks like an attempt to justify the Democrats’ defeat in the presidential election, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the ministry hasn’t been officially notified about the suit and learned about it only from media reports. “If this information is true, it seems to be a kind of attempt by the Democrats to justify their defeat,” she added, noting it was too early to speak about the actions Moscow might take in response to the complaint.
On Friday, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit, targeting the Trump campaign, the Russian government, and WikiLeaks. According to the complaint, the Trump campaign conspired with Moscow to hack the DNC’s computer network and release its emails via WikiLeaks. “During the 2016 presidential campaign, Russia launched an all-out assault on our democracy, and it found a willing and active partner in Donald Trump’s campaign,” DNC Chairman Tom Perez said in a statement.
While the lawsuit claims to be quite serious, it seems to contain rather little evidence. The Democrats don’t name Trump as a defendant but target key figures in his team, who met with those believed to be affiliated with Moscow.
For a year and a half “those who lost” the 2016 US presidential elections have tried to blame their failure on some “conspiracy” and “external interference,” according to Zakharova. Now “these fantasies” are being transferred from TV to the courtroom in order to “heat up anti-Russian sentiment,” she stated.
Possibly the most interesting thing about this is not that the suit is being filed or that they are unconcerned with looking like kooks, but that they actually appear to be purposefully trying to look like kooks.
Presumably, this is based on some kind of data they have which indicates that this level of kookery is something that their base is interested in.
I mean, clearly this suit isn’t going to go anywhere, so it has to have been filed exclusively to send a message to their base: “we will pursue these theories, relentlessly, far after they are proven to be inaccurate… we will never admit that this was a hoax, no matter how much evidence exists.”
And I have to say… purposeful marginalization in order to rile up a devoted base of extremists is not necessarily a bad strategy.
From their view, they believe this is what won Trump the election. And though after making it into office, Trump backed off of a lot of his hardline positions, he has symbolically, and in terms of his rhetoric, remained outside of anything that has been considered a part of mainstream politics over the last several decades.
And Trump has a much higher approval rating than Obama had at this point in his tenure.
The problem that I see with this strategy is that they do not have a Trump to charismatically pump up the hardliners in their own party. Even if Bernie Sanders was younger, he doesn’t have the high energy needed to play that role.
Furthermore, if Trump remains as he is now, then he totally has the ability to hold the middle.
If Trump was rounding up brown people and putting them in camps, and the Democrats were going full kook, then you’d have these two fully-polarized opposites and then the rest of the 60% of the population in the middle. But that’s not where we are.
So, who knows.
But I do think that the filing of this suit is a part of a calculated strategy and a sign of the direction that the Democrats are going to move in going forward. Full-on lunatic fringe.
