A Texas judge has set an execution date for a death row inmate convicted of raping and murdering a 19-year-old woman.
Judge Doug Shaver on Monday set Rodney Reed’s execution date for 6 p.m. on Jan. 14. Reed is in prison for the 1996 slaying of Bastrop County resident Stacey Stites.

Attorneys for the Innocence Project argued there is more evidence in the case that needs to be DNA tested. Reed’s family claims prosecutors withheld evidence during the trial.
Prosecutors say there has been enough time to appeal the 1998 conviction.
Shaver says he will allow limited DNA testing.
