he family of a ‘caring, compassionate, considerate and trusting woman’ who was shot dead in Turkey has said ‘justice has been done’ after her killer was jailed for life.
Anne Bury, 56, died when she was gunned down at a villa near the town of Dalyan in September 2013, along with her son Alex and mother Cecilia, who were left with serious injuries.
Her family today denied that Ms Bury and her killer, Veli Acar, had been secret lovers, adding that the gardener shot and killer her in cold blood because she planned to fire him after discovering he had defrauded her out of thousands of pounds.
Throughout his trial Acar claimed to have been in a relationship with Ms Bury and that killing her was a ‘crime of passion’. Her family dismissed this as simple ploy for him to get a lighter sentence.
Ms Bury, who was celebrating her 56th birthday with a pool party in the early hours of the morning when the gun rampage took place.
In 2013 her son Alex Bury, who suffered a leg injury, described how he pleaded with the gunman to stop the attack, trying to reason with him before he fatally blasted Ms Bury in the back.
It is understood that less than 48 hours before the attack took place, Acar had been briefly detained by police officers for allegedly making death threats against the family.
